The word “profession” means different things to different people. However, at its core, it is meant to be an indicator of trust and expertise. Recognising and championing the needs of women and families and supporting maternity staff highlights the value of the profession. All of the maternity staff are expected to demonstrate excellence and high quality care, following the example of great role models and having the courage to face up to the daily challenges whilst striving to improve care. This module highlights aspects of promoting the profession and what it means to be a professional.

After completing this module you will:

  • Have an understanding of the maternity profession
  • Understand the unique role of midwives and support workers and the value in respect of safe care
  • Promote the profession locally and nationally through awareness campaigns and supporting professional organisations
