The units in this module explore midwifery leadership competencies, the skills and challenges required of midwives as leaders of the profession. The competency model was originally developed to meet the needs of heads of midwifery, however, leadership is a role for everyone and the principles apply to all midwives and support workers whatever setting they practice in.
This module includes an overview of midwives as leaders, looking at how the role is intertwined with clinical care and being an advocate for women
Each competency has an activity attached together with reflective activities that should help you to define your current expertise and areas of confidence and identify areas you wish to further develop.
Study time: Approximately 15 hours study time but each element of the competency model can be studied individually.
