This i-learn module, a student survival guide, provides information and support for student midwives at the beginning of their course, and in the first year. The module has been developed using feedback from student midwives and provides advice on settling into life as a student midwife, academic requirements, and starting out with clinical practice.

By the end of this module, you will have:

  • developed insight into how your day-to-day life may change now that you are a student midwife
  • had an opportunity to review your financial situation as a student midwife
  • considered strategies to minimise your stress levels now that you are a student midwife
  • more insight into the academic requirements of midwifery courses
  • considered how clinical placements are organised
  • considered strategies that will help you to get the most out of your clinical experience in year one placements
