The four i-learn modules that make up Examination of the Newborn have been revised for 2020.  They provide a framework for the holistic assessment of the healthy newborn baby and for examination at 6-8 weeks. The four modules are:

  • EON1: Preparing for the examination
  • EON2: The importance of history taking and newborn assessment
  • EON3: Physical examination of the newborn
  • EON4: Clinical skills and equipment

EON3: Physical examination of each system is the third course in the Examination of the Newborn series of four courses. It includes sequence of the examination, observation, palpation, auscultation, general appearance and morphological examination, examination of each system and genetic and chromosomal abnormalities.

After working through EON3 (and based on the knowledge you have already gained from formal study) you will understand:

  • the sequence of the examination
  • what to look for in the general appearance of the baby
  • what to look for in the major systems
