The four i-learn modules that make up Examination of the Newborn have been revised for 2020. They provide a framework for the holistic assessment of the healthy newborn baby and for examination at 6-8 weeks. The four modules are:

  • EON1: Preparation and principles
  • EON2: Newborn assessment and maternal and newborn history
  • EON3: Physical examination of the newborn
  • EON4: Clinical skills and equipment

EON2: Newborn History and Assessment is the second course in the Examination of the Newborn series of five courses. It includes the importance of maternal history, family history, scan findings, labour and delivery history and the immediate neonatal period.

After working through EON2 (and based on the knowledge you have already gained from formal study) you will:

  • appreciate the importance of taking a full history
  • understand the impact of maternal and familial history on the newborn
  • appreciate the relevance of psycho-social environments on the mother and baby
