MaternityPEARLS is an online resource for midwives on perineal repair and suturing.

This resource is based on the work of the PErineal Assessment Repair Longitudinal Study (PEARLS) funded by the Health Foundation. During the study, a number of training issues and variations in practice were identified and this resource was put together to meet these needs.

By the end of this module you will:

• Understand the anatomy and functions of the pelvic floor
• Gain knowledge of basic surgical skills
• Gain knowledge and understanding of the importance of assessment and classification of perineal trauma
• Gain knowledge in the immediate postnatal management of perineal trauma
