The housing crisis in the UK is deepening. Reports from frontline maternity staff suggest that cuts to benefits, changes in the welfare system, and widespread issues with suitable housing in many areas of the UK are disproportionately affecting pregnant women.

It is important that we recognise the signs of homelessness, or those at risk of it, and know how to refer. Those booking into maternity services may be disclosing their homelessness to a professional for the very first time. Pregnancy can be a challenging time for many women, and those who also face the pressure of finding suitable housing before their baby arrives will need specific advice and support.
